Google Search Engine News
Ask Jeeves has been around for a long time
|
Google is a private company held by the
founders, employees and venture capitalists which include Yahoo!. Google's
index for a time handled approximately 80% of all searches, providing
regular search results for AOL, Yahoo!, Go (infoseek) and other domestic
and International portals and ISP's. Since the introduction of Yahoo's own index in February of
2004, MSN switching to Inkomi (for now) that number has decreased significantly.
Google still boasts AOL and Netscape as major portals they provide primary
results for!
PPC results are provided through the AdSense
and AdWords programs. AdWords are the ads designated as "Sponsored Links" on the
Google site. AdSense is a contextual ad program which targets ads based on
content of the page they are hosted on. Major search engines and portals
that display AdWords PPC ads are Ask Jeeves, AOL, Netscape, CompuServe, AT&T Worldnet,
Earthlink, Go and Excite. AdSense is proving to be popular with small sites that have niche audiences
suited to the targeting of these ads. In the past these sorts of sites
primarily generated revenue through affiliate programs. It is our opinion
the AdSense program will grow quickly and put a damper on the affiliate
marketing industry.
